Invisalign® at Junction Village Dental

Woman inserting invisible bracesInvisalign is an orthodontic solution for people with functional or aesthetic concerns related to the alignment of their bite. In most cases we see at Junction Village Dental, we recommend Invisalign for managing cosmetic concerns like crooked, gapped, or crowded smiles.

More complex functional needs are typically referred to an orthodontic specialist.

To get started, we’ll take an impression of your teeth and send it to Invisalign headquarters laboratories in the US. There, they design a digital mock-up of your smile’s needs and ship the aligners back to our office.

What Is Invisalign?

Instead of wearing metal brackets and wires, Invisalign consists of a series of translucent, removable orthodontic trays. When worn over your teeth in a systematic manner, Invisalign aligners will guide your bite into a straighter position. Simply change them out as directed, then pick up your next several sets of trays at Junction Village Dental as needed.

Part of Your Smile Makeover

With Invisalign, you can achieve healthy, non-invasive aesthetic results by adjusting the alignment of your smile. You can also choose to whiten/bleach your teeth to help them look brighter during (or after) the treatment process. Should you need any further enhancement, we may recommend recontouring or porcelain veneers to help with specific problem areas.

Things to Keep in Mind

Wearing Invisalign requires an ongoing commitment. Since the system uses a series of trays, you’ll need to wear the clear braces for at least 22 hours per day. Only remove them to eat and brush.

Your course of treatment will include 20 trays that follow a simulated computer mock-up of your desired outcome. Although the results are not identical to the virtual model, they get as close as possible. In some case, another round of 20 trays will be needed.

Perhaps one of the biggest complications our patients face is that teeth tend to move in the direction that they came from. To prevent relapse, we’ll need to place a wire retainer behind the upper and lower teeth to preserve their spacing.

Sometimes a removable retainer is worn as well (but only for about a year). If the permanent ones break or come unbonded, we’ll need to replace them in a timely manner. Although they can be bothersome to some people (cleaning them may be a bit tedious), it’s essential to invest in retention to keep your smile straight.
